This month, me and 10 other talented musicians released our album “Songs of the Phoenix.” ”Songs of the Phoenix” features a variety of styles of music. It was a project all members were excited to be a part of and it is quite a musical experience that most listeners can enjoy. Thousands of copies have been shipped worldwide and if you are interested in the album, contact me for more information!
One thing I really like about the album is the artwork. The artwork looks great and it really captures what the album is all about. I want to thank Indie Graphic Design for the great job they did with the artwork for “Songs of the Phoenix.” Check out the website for Indie Graphic Design for more awesome artwork they have done for other musicians.

* Until the end of February, I will be giving FREE practice tips to everyone that is subscribed to my newsletter. If you would like to receive these practice tips, click on the subscribe link on the right of the page or click here.
Learning to practice effectively is essential to becoming a better musician. When you practice effectively, you progress at a lot quicker rate. Have you ever met someone that says they practice like 8 hours a day but they do not seem to improve? I have and I believe the main reason for this is that they do not practice effectively.
You can practice all you want but if you are not practicing effectively it is going to take you longer to improve. Practicing effectively is something all musicians should learn to do. I always make sure to teach students how to practice because it helps them reach their goals quicker.
One of the best ways to start practicing more effectively is to write out your practice schedule before you start practicing. This way you stay focused on what you are trying to improve on. When you just practice and come up with things as you go, it usually is not the best way to practice. When most people practice in this manner, they usually just play around or work on things that they are already good at. There is nothing wrong with either of these but if it takes up all your practice time you are not going to improve much as a musician. If you want to really improve as a musician, you need to practice things that need improvement. Writing out your schedule will help you make sure you spend some time practicing things that need improvement.
When writing out your schedule, know what skills you need to work on and want to improve. Practicing should always aim for you to improve as a musician. If you used to spend a lot of your practice time just playing around, try and change your practice session so you focus on improving your skills. This does not mean you cant just play around on your instrument anymore. It means set time aside to completely focus on practicing and then after your practice session you can do whatever you want!
A great resource that has helped me create effective guitar schedules is called the practice generator. It creates the schedule for you based on what you want to improve at. Check out this website if you are interested in getting a customized guitar practice schedule.

A new year has just begun and its the time of year people make new year resolutions. Hearing all about new year resolutions has got me thinking more about my goals and the importance of goals in general. While most people do not follow through with their resolution, it is important to have goals in your musical life. Im not talking about having an idea of what you want to achieve but knowing exactly what you are going to achieve. Musical goals are going to be different for everyone but every musician should have them.
Musical goals are important because:
They keep you focused on what you want to achieve!
When you are focused on what you want to achieve, you spend your time more efficiently to achieve your goals. In the past when I did not have specific goals for my guitar playing, I did not progress as quickly. I spent a lot of time practicing in a lot of different directions but I was not becoming the guitar player I wanted to be. Creating goals is something that really helped me get going in the right direction of becoming the guitarist I wanted to become. What are your musical goals for 2012?
